House Painters in Scarborough
Scarborough filled with brick bungalows and split-levels after the Second World War, many trimmed in aluminum, and later subdivisions spread across its north. Great North Painting paints homes and condos across Scarborough, from the older streets near the Bluffs to Malvern and the Rouge.

Local notes
What should you know about painting a home in Scarborough?
Scarborough was mostly rural before the Second World War, and its population grew from about 56,000 in 1951 to more than 440,000 by 1981. Many homes from the 1950s and 1960s are brick bungalows and split-levels, and farmland in the north became subdivisions later in the century. Condo and apartment towers have risen around Scarborough City Centre since the late 20th century.
Lake fog in the south
Fog is more common in southern Scarborough, near the Bluffs and Lake Ontario. Latex paint that gets wet from fog or dew soon after it goes on can leave sticky, tan streaks, so finish exterior coats early in the day.
Chalky aluminum siding
Scarborough's population nearly quadrupled in the 1950s, and aluminum siding, soffits and trim are common on houses of that era. Old factory finishes turn chalky, so wash the chalk off before priming and painting.
Summer heat in the north
Areas near the lake are noticeably cooler on hot summer days, so northern Scarborough takes more of the heat. Paint on a sun-baked wall dries too fast and can blister or show lap marks, so follow the shade around the house.
Neighbourhoods
Neighbourhoods we serve in Scarborough
What the homes are like in each part of Scarborough, and what that means for a paint job.
Birch Cliff
Birch Cliff, above the Scarborough Bluffs, has some of Scarborough's oldest suburban streets, with houses from the early 1900s through the post-war years. Old wood porches and trim there may carry lead-based paint, so test before sanding.
Guildwood
Guildwood Village was begun in 1957 on the Guild Inn's former lands, with winding roads, cul-de-sacs and buried power lines. With no overhead wires in the way, ladders can reach front walls safely, though treed lots keep many of them in shade.
Wexford
Wexford is one of Scarborough's post-war suburbs, lined with 1950s brick bungalows, many with aluminum awnings, soffits and trim. Those metal parts are washed, spot-primed and painted along with the rest of the house.
Agincourt
Agincourt grew from a railway village into a suburb from the 1950s on, and now mixes original bungalows with newer townhouses and condos near its GO station. Condo townhouses usually need the board's approval before an exterior colour change.
Highland Creek
Highland Creek, a former village beside its creek and the University of Toronto's Scarborough campus, mixes family houses from the 1950s to the 1980s with student rentals near the campus.
Malvern
Malvern was planned in the 1970s as a community of detached houses, semis, townhouses and apartment buildings in northeast Scarborough. Townhouse rows share walls and rooflines, so exterior colours are usually decided for the whole row.
The Rouge
The Rouge, beside Rouge National Urban Park in Scarborough's northeast corner, is mostly detached houses, semis and towns from the 1990s and 2000s. Their oak stair rails and trim need a stain-blocking primer before any paint.

Questions
Questions from Scarborough
What does it cost to repaint aluminum siding on a Scarborough bungalow?
$4,000–$9,000 in 2026, before HST, for a detached bungalow. The siding is washed, de-chalked and adhesion-tested before two coats of 100% acrylic go on. Travel is built into that range.
Where can you drop off leftover paint in Scarborough?
At a City of Toronto Drop-off Depot, up to 50 litres a visit. The City treats latex, acrylic and oil paints, even empty cans, as household hazardous waste, so none goes in the garbage or Blue Bin.
Do popcorn ceilings in Scarborough homes need an asbestos test?
Yes, before anyone scrapes them. Asbestos was used in some textured ceilings in Canada, mainly in homes built before about 1990, and many Scarborough homes date from the 1950s to the 1970s. Every popcorn ceiling removal starts with an asbestos test, before any work begins.
What does kitchen cabinet painting cost in Scarborough?
$3,200–$8,500 for most kitchens in 2026, before HST. The number of doors, drawer fronts and panels decides where a kitchen falls.
What does it cost to paint a living room in a Scarborough house?
$700–$1,500 for a living or dining room in 2026, before HST. Jobs under one crew-day are billed at the $750 + HST minimum, so pairing rooms makes the most of a visit.
