Prices and quotes

Is the estimate free?

Yes. The range from our estimator, your written quote and any visit to see the job are all free. Your itemized quote arrives within 24 hours of seeing the job.

Are your prices before or after HST?

Before HST. Our published prices include every mandatory fee, travel included.

What if the sizes I give you are wrong?

Your quote is priced on the sizes you give us. If the crew finds the job bigger or smaller, the price changes to match. You see the new price before any work starts.

When do I pay?

20% books your dates once you have the written quote. The rest is due an hour before the job is finished.

Is the paint included in the price?

Yes. Every price includes two coats of the paint named in your quote, along with the prep and the daily cleanup.

What is the smallest job you take on?

The minimum job is $750 + HST, which covers one crew-day. Grouping small jobs into one visit, such as a room, some trim and a few drywall repairs, makes the most of it.

What does your written quote include?

The scope and the sizes it's priced on, the prep, the paint named by brand and line, the price plus HST, the dates, and any surface the warranty can't cover. It arrives within 24 hours of seeing the job.

Is the online estimate a quote?

No. It is a ballpark range from our published prices, before HST. Your written, itemized quote sets the price, based on the size of the job.

Do I need to give my contact details to see a price range?

No. The estimator shows your range first. You add your details only if you want the range emailed to you, or a written quote.

How do I send you photos of the job?

Text them to 437-375-8622 or email them to info@greatnorthpainting.com, with your reference number if the estimator gave you one. A crew lead quotes from them, and they show whether the job needs a visit. Wide shots of each room or wall, plus close-ups of any damage, help the most.

Why is my estimate a range and not a single price?

A job's size, its condition and the colour change move it within its published range. Your photos and sizes show all three, and your written quote then gives one price.

Do you charge a travel fee in the GTA?

No. Travel is already built into our published ranges, wherever you are in the GTA.

What does it cost to paint a condo?

from $850 for a studio, $1,100–$2,400 for a 1-bedroom and $1,800–$3,800 for a 2-bedroom unit in 2026, before HST. Your written quote sets the price.

How is trim painting priced?

$2.50–$4.00 per linear ft in 2026, before HST, for baseboard, casing and crown. Interior doors are quoted with the job.

What does it cost to paint aluminum siding?

$4,000–$9,000 for a detached bungalow in 2026, before HST. Your written quote sets the price for your house.

What does it cost to paint or stain a brick house?

A brick exterior typically costs $8,000–$22,000 in 2026, before HST. Every brick job is quoted once we've seen the brick, because the right finish depends on the brick and its condition.

Why is stucco painting quoted job by job?

The price depends on the wall area, the height and the condition of the stucco. A crew lead checks all three, from your photos or on site, and your written quote arrives within 24 hours of seeing the job.

How is staircase and railing painting priced?

It is quoted per project, once we've seen the staircase. A staircase on its own is billed at no less than the $750 + HST minimum.

How is popcorn ceiling removal priced?

Each room is quoted after we see the ceiling, and an asbestos test comes before any work. Jobs under one crew-day are billed at the $750 + HST minimum.

How is commercial painting quoted?

In writing, from photos or plans of the space, with a site walk when the job needs one. Your itemized quote follows within 24 hours of seeing the job.

6 questions

Warranty

What does your warranty cover?

Peeling, blistering and flaking caused by how we prepared or applied the paint, for 5 years on interiors, 3 on exteriors and 2 on cabinet finishes. It covers every surface your quote accepts. It doesn't cover moisture, movement, failing surfaces or older coats underneath, wear, impact, abuse or work by others.

How do I make a warranty claim?

Call, text or email us about what you've noticed. We inspect within 10 business days, look at what came off, and repair covered defects free.

How long is the warranty?

5 years on interior painting, 3 years on exterior painting and 2 years on cabinet finishes, counted from the day the job is finished. It covers every surface your quote accepts.

Why would a surface not be covered by the warranty?

Because some surfaces can't hold paint reliably, such as paint that is already peeling, damp masonry or rotten wood. Your quote names any of these, and why, before you sign. We'll still paint them if you want.

How do you decide whether a problem is covered?

We look at what came off. If only our paint lifted, from a surface your quote accepted, it's covered. If older coats came off with it, the older bond failed, so it isn't.

Do I get the warranty in writing?

Yes. We walk the finished job with you, fix any touch-ups on the spot, and hand over your written workmanship warranty once the job is paid.

5 questions

What we do

Is a popcorn ceiling tested for asbestos before removal?

Yes. Every popcorn ceiling removal starts with an asbestos test, before any work begins. Each room is then quoted after we see the ceiling.

Do you paint commercial spaces?

Yes: offices, rental turnovers and condo corridors across the GTA. Commercial work is quoted in writing from photos or plans, with a site walk when the job needs one.

Do you stain decks and fences?

No. Cedar deck and fence staining is a wood-care trade, so we leave it to specialists. We paint homes, condos and businesses, inside and out.

Can aluminum siding be painted?

Yes. The siding is washed, de-chalked and adhesion-tested, bare metal is spot-primed, and it gets two coats of 100% acrylic. It often costs a fraction of replacement siding.

Can oak railings be painted black?

Yes. Oak-to-black spindles and railings are part of our staircase and railing painting. The job is quoted once we've seen the staircase.

6 questions

Renovations

Do you visit before quoting a renovation?

Yes, every time. A crew lead measures the space and checks its walls, floors and fixtures. Your written, itemized quote follows the visit.

Who does the plumbing and electrical work in a renovation?

Trades holding their own Ontario licences. A plumber with a Certificate of Qualification does the plumbing, and an electrical contractor with an ESA licence does the electrical.

Does my renovation need a building permit?

It depends on the work. In Toronto, new plumbing and adding or removing walls need one, while new cabinets, insulation and replacement fixtures don't. Your quote names the permits your job needs.

How do I pay for a renovation?

The same way as a painting job: 20% books your dates, and the rest is due an hour before the job is finished. Your written contract sets out each payment.

Is painting part of a renovation?

Whenever your quote includes it. Painting in a renovation carries our written 5-year interior warranty, like any other interior job.

What if my older home has asbestos?

In a home built before 1990, the materials a job will disturb are tested before any demolition. If a test finds asbestos, a qualified removal company takes it out first.
