Local notes

What should you know about painting a home in Brampton?

Bramalea, planned in the 1950s as Canada's first satellite community, grew east of the old town through the 1960s and 1970s. Springdale was begun in 1991, and by 1999 new streets reached Mayfield Road at the Caledon border. Most homes are detached houses, semis and towns, usually faced in brick.

  1. Churchville's district plan

The old village of Churchville, inside Brampton, has been a heritage conservation district since 1990. Its district plan guides exterior changes, so ask the City's heritage staff whether new colours or trim need a permit before work starts.

  2. Bramalea's older exteriors

Health Canada says homes built between 1960 and 1990 may have lead-based paint on the outside. Bramalea's first decades fall in that span, so have old siding, trim and doors tested before scraping or sanding.

  3. Nail pops in new houses

Brampton's population more than doubled between 2001 and 2021, so many houses are still young. As new framing dries, drywall nails and screws can pop, so set and fill them before repainting, or they show again.

Neighbourhoods we serve in Brampton

What the homes are like in each part of Brampton, and what that means for a paint job.

  • Downtown Brampton

Brampton's old town, around Main and Queen streets, keeps brick houses from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Old paint on their trim and porches likely contains lead, so it is tested before any scraping.

  • Bramalea

Bramalea was built in lettered sections, and each section's street names start with its letter, from the early A section onward. The oldest sections' soffits, trim and doors usually need the most prep before a repaint.

  • Heart Lake

Heart Lake, in north Brampton around its conservation area, was built up from the 1970s on with detached houses and semis. Walls backing onto the woods stay shaded and damp, so they are washed of mildew first.

  • Springdale

Springdale, in northeast Brampton, is one of the city's largest suburbs, with detached houses, semis and towns built from the 1990s on. Many have two-storey foyers or open family rooms, where height drives the time a job takes.

  • Castlemore

Castlemore, in Brampton's northeast, has large detached houses on bigger lots, mostly built from the late 1990s on. Tall walls and big exteriors there often need scaffolding.

  • Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant Village, around its GO station in northwest Brampton, was planned from the 2000s with houses, towns and stacked towns, many with garages on lanes at the back. Porches in front and garages behind give many houses two faces to paint.

Questions

Questions from Brampton

What does it cost to paint a 3-bedroom house in Brampton?

$4,800–$9,500 in 2026, before HST, for the whole interior. Size, repairs and the colour change place a Brampton home within that range. Your written quote sets the price.

What should you do with old paint cans in Brampton?

Take them to a Peel Region Community Recycling Centre, where residents drop off household hazardous waste free. Peel allows up to 80 litres of liquids a day, in sealed, labelled containers of 30 litres or less.

Should a textured ceiling in a Bramalea house be tested for asbestos?

Yes, before it is scraped. Asbestos was used in some textured ceilings in Canada, mainly in homes built before about 1990, and Bramalea, in Brampton, grew through the 1960s and 1970s. Every popcorn ceiling removal starts with an asbestos test, before any work begins.

What does it cost to paint the outside of a bungalow or two-storey house in Brampton?

$4,000–$8,000 for a bungalow and $7,000–$18,000 for a two-storey home in 2026, before HST. On brick houses the painting is mostly soffits, trim, doors and garage doors.

Do you need a permit to paint a house in Brampton?

Usually not: painting needs no building permit. In Churchville, a heritage conservation district since 1990, ask the City's heritage staff first. Condo townhouses need the board's approval.
