Local notes
What should you know about painting a home in Mississauga?
Mississauga's suburban growth took off after the Second World War with subdivisions such as Applewood Acres, and the new towns of Erin Mills and Meadowvale were started in 1968 and 1969. Most of the city was built out by 2005, much of it in brick detached houses, semis and towns. Condo towers have since risen around Square One.
Ontario's first heritage district
Meadowvale Village, on the Credit River, became Ontario's first heritage conservation district in 1980. A heritage permit may be needed for exterior changes there, so check with the City of Mississauga before repainting siding, trim or doors.
City Centre condo rules
The towers around Square One each set their own rules for booking the service elevator, protecting hallways and work hours. Ask the property manager for them early, since an elevator booking can decide the start date.
Testing Applewood-era paint
Applewood Acres went up in the 1950s, and Health Canada treats homes of that age as likely to contain lead-based paint. A lab can test a paint chip, or an inspector can scan surfaces with X-ray equipment, before any scraping or sanding.
Neighbourhoods
Neighbourhoods we serve in Mississauga
What the homes are like in each part of Mississauga, and what that means for a paint job.
Port Credit
Port Credit grew up at the mouth of the Credit River, and older brick and wood-frame houses sit near the lake beside newer infill and condos. Walls facing the lake take the most wind and damp, so their caulking and paint are checked first.
Lorne Park
Lorne Park's large, treed lots hold mid-century houses and many newer custom homes that have replaced them. Heavy shade keeps north walls and trim damp, so they are washed of mildew before painting.
Clarkson
Clarkson mixes 1950s and 1960s bungalows and split-levels with later subdivisions and townhouses near its GO station. Original wood or aluminum trim on the older houses needs scraping or washing, then priming, before a new colour.
Streetsville
Streetsville was its own village and then town until Mississauga formed in 1974, and its Queen Street core keeps houses from the 1800s and early 1900s. Trim that old likely carries lead-based paint, so it is tested before scraping.
Erin Mills
Planned as a new town, Erin Mills is mostly brick detached houses, semis and towns from the 1970s to the 1990s, set among parks and trails. Houses from the 1980s and 1990s often have oak railings and cabinets that need a stain-blocking primer.
Meadowvale
Meadowvale's houses and townhouses are set around two man-made lakes, Lake Aquitaine and Lake Wabukayne, and a long network of trails. Walls facing that open ground take more sun and wind, so their south and west sides fade first.
Churchill Meadows
Churchill Meadows filled in from the late 1990s with detached houses, semis and towns, many with two-storey foyers or great rooms. There, ceiling height, not floor area, drives the time a room takes.
Cooksville
Cooksville, around Hurontario and Dundas streets, is one of Mississauga's oldest crossroads and now mixes post-war houses with apartment and condo towers. Tower suites follow each building's rules for elevator bookings and hallway protection.
Malton
Malton, beside Pearson airport, grew up around the aircraft plants of the 1940s and 1950s, with many post-war bungalows and semis. Their aluminum soffits and trim chalk with age and are washed before painting.

Questions
Questions from Mississauga
What does it cost to paint a condo in Mississauga?
$1,100–$2,400 for a 1-bedroom, $1,800–$3,800 for a 2-bedroom and $2,400–$5,000 for a 3-bedroom unit in 2026, before HST. We arrange the elevator booking with your building.
Where can you take leftover paint in Mississauga?
To one of Peel Region's Community Recycling Centres, free for residents. Full or partly full paint cans count as household hazardous waste, so they stay out of the garbage. Bring them sealed and labelled.
Do popcorn ceilings in Mississauga homes need an asbestos test?
Before removal, yes. Asbestos was used in some textured ceilings in Canada, mainly in homes built before about 1990, and much of Mississauga was built from the late 1960s on. Every popcorn ceiling removal starts with an asbestos test, before any work begins.
What does it cost to paint the outside of a two-storey house in Mississauga?
$7,000–$18,000 for a two-storey home and $4,000–$8,000 for a bungalow in 2026, before HST. Size, height and the prep the walls need decide where a house falls.
Do you need a permit to paint a house in Mississauga?
Usually not: painting needs no building permit. In Meadowvale Village, a heritage conservation district, exterior changes may need a heritage permit, so check with the City first. Condo townhouses need the board's approval.
