Local notes
What should you know about painting a home in Burlington?
Burlington took in most of Nelson Township and Aldershot in 1958, and its population grew from about 47,000 in 1961 to about 115,000 by 1981. Many homes from those years are brick bungalows, side-splits and two-storey houses. Headon Forest and Millcroft date mostly from the late 1980s and 1990s, and Alton Village, in the north end, from the mid-2000s on.
Split-level stairwells
Side-splits and back-splits are common in Burlington's 1960s and 1970s neighbourhoods, such as Longmoor and Pinedale. Their half-flights of stairs leave tall, stepped stairwell walls, which need a stair ladder or platform and more time than a plain wall.
Humid lake summers
Burlington lies at the west end of Lake Ontario, and its summers are warm and humid. Paint dries slowly in damp air, so leave extra time between coats and keep exterior work to dry, mild days.
Vinyl siding and dark colours
Some newer Burlington houses pair brick with vinyl siding. Vinyl can warp if it is painted darker than its original colour, so pick from a paint maker's vinyl-safe range.

What the homes are like in each part of Burlington, and what that means for a paint job.
Aldershot
Aldershot, on Burlington's west side beside Hamilton Harbour and the Royal Botanical Gardens, mixes post-war bungalows with older houses and newer infill. Its oldest wood trim is tested for lead before scraping.
Downtown Burlington
Downtown Burlington, around Brant Street and the lake, mixes older houses with condo towers along Lakeshore Road. Condo suites follow each building's rules, and houses near the water take the most wind.
Roseland
Roseland, south of New Street near the lake, has large houses on big treed lots, many of them rebuilt or expanded over the years. Mature trees keep walls and trim in shade, so mildew is washed off first.
Tyandaga
Tyandaga has houses on hilly, wooded streets around its golf course, near the foot of the escarpment. Slopes and trees make ladder footing harder on some lots, so exteriors there may need scaffolding.
Brant Hills
Brant Hills, in north-central Burlington, was built mostly in the 1970s with detached houses, semis and townhouses. Popcorn ceilings from that decade are tested for asbestos before any removal.
Alton Village
Alton Village, in the north end, has houses, towns and stacked towns built since the mid-2000s, many on narrow lots with rear lanes. Townhouse rows share trim lines, so colours are often agreed along the row.

Questions
Questions from Burlington
What does it cost to paint aluminum or vinyl siding in Burlington?
$4,000–$9,000 in 2026, before HST, for a detached bungalow. The siding is washed, de-chalked and adhesion-tested first. Your written quote sets the price.
How do you get rid of leftover paint in Burlington?
Halton Region takes it at its Waste Management Site in Milton, which has a household hazardous waste depot. Halton also holds Special Waste Drop-off Days through the year, for Burlington and other Halton residents only.
Could a 1960s or 1970s house in Burlington have lead paint?
Possibly. Health Canada says a home built between 1960 and 1990 may have lead-based paint outside, and smaller amounts inside. Have old paint tested before it is sanded or scraped, since the dust is the hazard.
What does it cost to paint a split-level stairwell in Burlington?
$1,100–$2,200 in 2026, before HST. The stepped walls of a side-split or back-split need a stair ladder or platform, which is why they are priced on their own.
Do you need a permit to paint a house in Burlington?
Usually not: painting needs no building permit. A house designated under the Ontario Heritage Act may need approval for exterior changes, so check the City's heritage register first. Condo townhouses need the board's approval.
