Local notes
What should you know about painting a home in Milton?
Milton was Canada's fastest-growing municipality between 2001 and 2011, and its population rose from about 31,000 in 2001 to about 133,000 in 2021. Most homes are brick detached houses, semis and towns built since Beaty, the first new neighbourhood, was begun in 2001. Older subdivisions include Dorset Park, from the 1970s, and Timberlea, from the 1980s.
Old Milton's designated properties
Old Milton dates mainly from the second half of the 1800s, and some properties there are designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. Changes to a designated property may need a heritage permit, so ask the Town about the address before repainting the outside.
Winter ceiling cracks
Newer houses in Dempsey, Clarke and Willmott are usually framed with roof trusses, which can lift slightly in winter and crack the joint where the top-floor ceiling meets the wall. Flexible, paintable caulk holds there better than rigid filler.
Bronte Meadows' original kitchens
Bronte Meadows was built between 1982 and 1985, so an original kitchen there has seen decades of cooking. Grease collects on cabinet doors, mostly near handles and the stove, and paint will not bond over it, so degrease before sanding or priming.
Neighbourhoods
Neighbourhoods we serve in Milton
What the homes are like in each part of Milton, and what that means for a paint job.
Old Milton
Old Milton, around Main Street, has brick and wood-frame houses from the late 1800s, many with porches and decorative trim. That trim is scraped and brushed by hand, after a lead test.
Dorset Park
Dorset Park, one of Milton's older subdivisions, dates from the 1970s, with bungalows, back-splits and two-storey houses. Textured ceilings from that decade are tested for asbestos before removal.
Timberlea
Timberlea, built in the 1980s, has detached houses and semis on quiet crescents. Oak trim and kitchens from that decade need a stain-blocking primer before any paint.
Beaty
Beaty, begun in 2001, was the first of Milton's new neighbourhoods, with detached houses, semis and towns. Its original exterior caulking is now more than twenty years old and often needs replacing before a repaint.
Hawthorne Village
Hawthorne Village, in east Milton near the escarpment, went up in the 2000s with detached houses, semis and townhouses. Townhouse rows there share walls and trim lines with their neighbours.

Questions
Questions from Milton
What does it cost to paint the inside of a newer home in Milton?
$4,800–$9,500 in 2026, before HST, for a 3-bedroom home. Any size of home can be priced by wall area, at $2.00–$3.25 per sq ft of wall area.
Where is the paint drop-off in Milton?
At the Halton Waste Management Site, 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton. Its household hazardous waste depot takes paint year-round, and its reuse depot takes usable paint and stain free, from spring to fall.
Do newer homes in Milton have lead paint?
It is unlikely. Health Canada says houses built after 1990 should not contain lead-based paint, and most of Milton was built after 2000. Older houses in Old Milton are different, so test those first.
What does it cost to paint the outside of a two-storey house in Milton?
$7,000–$18,000 for a two-storey home in 2026, before HST. Most newer Milton houses are faced in brick, so the painted parts are usually trim, doors, garage doors and any siding.
Do you need a permit to paint a house in Milton?
Usually not: painting needs no building permit. Some Old Milton properties are designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, so ask the Town about the address before repainting the outside. Condo townhouses need the board's approval.
